News for the week

I like to stay on top of interesting environmental law cases, questions and issues.  Even if I don’t have time to write an entire post. Here’s what I was reading this week.  First an article on an EPA ruling related to fee recovery by tribes.

Next an article on actions taken by environmental organizations to challenge to FDA/EPA rules on mercury limits in seafood. I worked this issue for 2 years at Oceana. In particular, we were successful in getting grocery stores to post signs with the FDA advisory on which fish have mercury. So the history, and politics, of why the EPA limit is 0.5 ppm and the FDA limit is 1.0 ppm is really interesting (and kind of scary).

Finally, groups in Virginia have filed suit under the CWA.
